Our Background
Maroondah Magic Basketball Club was established in 1969 as a school based club named Croydon West High School Basketball Club. Local school principals Mr A Douglas and Mr Harry Fletcher were early supporters of the Club, along with the Jensen, Van Os, Newey, Corr, Grant, Cunning and Fletcher families who were all involved in the initial running of the Club.
In 1972, the Club changed its name to Maroondah High School Basketball Club, before it was once more changed to Maroondah Magic Basketball Club in 1985 upon incorporation as an Association. Now with typically over 120 teams competing from Miniball to U23, the Club is one of the largest in the area.
Our Club Values
In the conduct and execution of the Club’s activities, Maroondah Magic Basketball Club will always be governed by adherence to its core values and the Codes of Conduct of Basketball Victoria.
Our core values are:
Promotion of Basketball
By promoting basketball, we hope to nurture and enhance the development and improvement of basketball skills and to promote the attitudes of good sportsmanship, temperament, cooperation with others, and character in children.
Encouragement of Participation by All
We encourage participation, regardless of ability, by maximising enjoyment and placing winning in perspective. We aim to instil respect for others including fellow players, opponents and referees. We strenuously oppose all forms of verbal, racial and physical abuse.
Fostering of Community Spirit
We achieve our aims through an environment that encourages family and community involvement. This is only possible through the ongoing support of parents. Each team has a Coach and Team Manager with parents of our players primarily filling these positions.
Fun and Enjoyment
Above all Maroondah Magic Basketball Club is about everybody involved with the Club enjoying themselves and having fun.
